  Saoirse, I agree, but try telling that to a JW who thinks that if he leaves the religion, he has no other choice but to sink into depravity. To him, all JW's are good people (even when I point out to him that there are some questionable people in his congo) and all worldly people are not to be trusted (even me--his wife).

  It's all about control and responsibility. It's scary to him to have to control himself and make important decisions for himself & his family. It's easy to be a drug imbibing, promiscuous alchoholic. It's much harder to "be good for goodness sake" and realize that each & every decision you make has an impact on the other three people you live with/have responsibility for. If he's a JW, then he is controlled by the WTBTS & all his decisions are made easy because he has a mental check list of what is acceptable and not acceptable. If he can't make it from that, he runs to an elder. No thinking necessary. Here's what you wear, how you live, where you go, and who you associate with...all dictated by the F&DS. Lovely.

  I hear ya Wobble & I agree. He's that type of guy and I think it was made worse because he was indoctrinated early. His mom is hard-core, too. He doesn't see that he has done all the good things that he's done. He always gives credit to JoeHoober. It's distressing.

I can't get him to understand (even by my example) that you can be a good person without being a JW. To him, it goes hand in hand. He thinks that if he's not a JW, he has to be a depraved maniac. It drives me nutty!!

  Can I get a scan? Just of this article. I'm going to flip a few words and show it to Mr. Witness to see his reaction. You know, change out "Jehovah's channel" for United States and stuff like that, show it to him, get his negative reaction to it, then put the Watchtower under his nose with the pertinent section highlighted.

  my jw brother-in-law just told me that he heard that bill cosby only uses jw's as servants because they are the only ones that he can trust not to rob him.

  has anyone ever heard this?

  i'm sure it's not true, but i can't find it on snopes.

  gorgeous crescent moon with Venus above tonite!

  i've been watching the sky show tonite as the velvet curtain of night slowly fell...........there is a beautiful crescent moon, with venus at right angles to her..........i also saw the three planets about two/three months ago...........i am loving the huge windows in my fourth floor apartment........i see sooo much up here!.

  the "fds" also want blondie to calm down because she's always bringing up the lack of jesus being mentioned in the majority of the issues.. the picture of the 125th gilead graduation on page 23 caught my eye thanks to jwd.

  That following the lamb article actually made me throw up a little in my mouth. I was telling my JW last night that I'm not so upset with him being a JW (though I wish he wasn't) but that he doesn't question any of the BS they print.

  So, this morning, I'm packing lunches and my JW hubby is standing next to me making his breakfast. He starts sining "Oh Tannenbaum, Oh Tannenbaum" then hums the rest. Normally, I would have let it slide, but I'm feeling bitchy this morning, so I say "getting into the holiday spirit?". And he says "what do you mean?" and I say "you're singing a Christmas carol". So he says "What" and gives me that look that dogs give you, you know, with a tilted head and a cocked eye... So I say, "do you know what Tannenbaum is?" He's still looking at me like "Baroo?". So I say "Tannenbaum is the German word for Christmas tree...'Oh Tannenbaum' is 'Oh Christmas tree' in English". So he says "Oh, I thought it was about college. You know, a sorority or something".

  All I could do was shake my head.

  Change, Good thread.

  I'd like to weigh in with this thought...the other night I was trying to get hubby to understand that by their teachings, JW's are condeming people to death when they introduce their doctrine at the door and the householder rejects it (if I understand right, you have a chance at surviving the big A if you "don't know") and he wouldn't follow my logic. I have a name for that type of denial and most JW's and Christians fall back on this when you show them how barbaric their beliefs are. The name is "Intentionally Obtuse". Christians know exactly what they believe and as an earlier poster said, they don't want to say it out loud because it either sounds silly or horrible!
